The Trip to 50 Day 9: Rolling on Home

We wake up at 7:00, get up quickly, pack, and get out of the room in no time. There’s not much to keep us here so we hit the road ASAP.

Ready to hit the road
Loading up

We hit the road by 7:30, and when we do the rain has started coming down hard.

We grab gas and get a breakfast sandwich at the gas station, along with a cup of coffee.

High class breakfast

We hit the road and the rain is coming down hard.

The morning is a gloom
The highway is a wet mess
A cool cross-section of highway blast
The sky starts to open up

Eventually we outrun the rain and it stops. We are both exhausted so we decide to skip the ride today and drive through. After yesterday, I think we are both ready for some rest days.

The day gets beautiful out

Out of Kentucky and into West Virginia!

State #2

We then hit Charleston, WV and take a break.

The Charleston bridges
The capitol of WV

We go on a coffee search and after 4 tries we find something that seems to show promise. There’s a shop in this cool little market along the highway.

Trying out this little market
This was a cool little place
A random find, but really good

The coffee is really good, very much a treat. We hit the road and get into Maryland before too long.

State #3
So much blasting to make the highway
Maryland opens up

Then PA and the tunnels of the Turnpike.

State #4
The tunnels of the PA Turnpike

We hop on 81 then 78 and cruise that all the way home into NJ and home.

State #5, no sign welcomes you back

We drive 2800+ miles in all, hit 10 states, ride something like 9 systems in 4 states, drink 217 cups of coffee, and have 1 incredibly good time. Thanks to my wife Dominique for giving me this trip for my birthday. It’s something I will remember for a long time!
