The Last 23-24 Ski Weekend in Vermont 1 – Sugarbush

Our last ski trip of the 2023-24 season starts on a Thursday night, after we have dinner with Julia and my parents. We’re then all off and hit the road: Julia to her mom’s, my parents back to PA with Bear, and us off to Vermont. The sign says welcome to Vermont.

Simon falls asleep and wakes up by throwing up all over himself. This would start a 24 stretch of what we assume is food poisoning, but would later come to find out was a stomach bug. He throws up in the car, at the gas station, then in the driveway when we get to the AirBnb.

The Subaru Christmas Engine lights come on as well.

We arrive after 11. They leave chocolate for us.

I wake up the next morning and go to the Price Chopper for food. We then have some breakfast and work up the energy to hit the road and drive north. We take our time due to Simon’s condition from the night before.

Today is Sugarbush, and the conditions here are as good as what we had out in Banff earlier in the year. While there was no fresh snow, there was a ton of packed powder and no ice whatsoever. This is about as good a day as you can get on the East Coast, at least without a big dump.

The sun was shining. It was glorious.

But Simon got sick again and had to spend some solo time in the lodge. Eventually he would come back out and join us.

Crazy scenario was running into Woody, his sister Christine, and his brother Kevin after we were done. We probably haven’t seen him in 2 years now.

The Strava link can be found here.

We drive home, stopping at the market in Rochester for some food to make at the apartment for dinner. We settle on pasta because we don’t know what shape Simon will be in.

In the end it turns out fine and his stomach has seemed to settle. Looks like it was a quick in & out for him, thankfully.
