Kingdom 21 Day 10 – Saying Goodbye

I wake up at 6:45 after a so-so night of sleep. I am more or less ready to be done with beds that are not my own so this is appropriate that I have had enough of this bed. We have some breakfast and everyone pitches in to get the house ready.

For some reason, there is less food leftover this year so it’s a bit easier to get everything cleaned up. Maybe it’s also because there are more people. But the wrap up is much smoother than normal.

One last breakfast

We are cleaned up and out the door by 8:45. We say our goodbyes to the people who are leaving for good, Utah, Jim, Glenn, and Bill. Mia and her parents had come by earlier to day goodbye and Bill & Donovan had left the night before quietly. The rest of us go to the bike shop at the top of the hill for 1 last ride.

The remaining 7 are D & myself, Alex & Mark, Joy & Steve, as well as Capers.

The final crew

We do a last basic loop, starting with NewT. It’s been worked on this week so it’s better, and the tread is great. We cruise down West Bench and then go up Hogback, down Piggy Back, up Hogback, down Sidewinder, up West Bench, then finish it off with a Bear Back to West Bench roll to the top, then out Old Webs to end the day.

Here, Capers split off and went his own way for a little extra, and the 6 of us rolled on.

D and the last pic before we roll out

Then we take the dirt road home, to the car.

The final singletrack

In all we did just under 8 miles in just over an hour. The Strava link can be found here.

At this point, we said goodbye to Joy & Steve.

The plan was to go to the tiki bar parking lot to shower but we forgot to run the dishwasher so we went back to the house, turned it on, and took a quick shower. Alex & Mark followed to get a real shower as well. And we said 1 last goodbye to the house.

Goodbye house

On the way out we hit the bakery we’ve passed countless times but they are out of the specialty. We get something to eat then hit the road, saying goodbye to Alex & Mark for now. I am sure we will see them before too long.

Quick stop at the bakery

We stop in town to pick up a few things before we go, then we hit the long road home. It’s over 360 miles and I try not to think too much about it.

Just into New York we finally hit the drive through coffee shack, Lumber Jack’s Coffee & Snacks. It is decent, the sandwich is very good. It may be worth the stop next time we are here.

The drive thru coffee stop

We make 1 more stop for gas and to use the rest room then D drives the rest of the way while I get to kick back and relax for a bit.

Just chilling

We get home and see my parents, who are celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary. And we get to see the dog who is hyper excited that we are back. We sit down to have some dinner and they hit the road while we unpack the car and start to do laundry. Life as normal will resume momentarily.

With that, day 10 is complete and we have finished another memorable trip to the Kingdom. Until next time, ride on!
