23 & Sedona 3 – Flagstaff

We’re up at 4:30. I guess going to bed at 8:30 really does keep you on east coast time. I have a lot of free time on my hands that I really don’t know what to do with. I make coffee, eggs, coffee, and oatmeal and it’s still early.

We hit the road a bit before 9:00. Destination: Flagstaff.

The drive from Sedona to Flagstaff is actually quite neat. You wind your way up a gorge for much of the drive.

We see a Vermont plate in the lot where we park and as we ride out we talk to the guy for a bit. He rides with us on the gravel road up but since he has an eBike and is climbing 2200′ feet on this road, he shoots out ahead of us. This is the sort of ride meant for an eBike.

We ride the road to the trail, and as we deliberate where to go we find a local that gives us a much better, slightly longer, but much less painful way to do what we’re looking to do. Thankfully we avoided a shitty climb up by talking to him.

After the climbing, which is tough for D because this is a solid hour+ uphill, we tool around at the top for a bit. The trail rolls along the top and we are treated to some great views along the way.

We stop to have some snacks right before the big downhill. Big Bang is the target trail and it’s a 4.5 mile downhill. It’s an awesome way to end the ride.

We hit Matador Coffee Roasting on the way out. It’s decent. If we come back up here I might come back. Or I might try another place. We’ll see. D gets a chai latte and she likes it.

We drive back to Sedona, unload the truck, then hop in the pool & hot tub. After this we walk around the corner to grab a few things from the drugstore and the natural food store.

We wrap the evening up with some dinner, laundry, cleaning up, etc. Alex & Mark will be coming in tonight but given our schedule they will get here well after we go to bed.
