Aruba Club 4: Beach & Homeward Bound

The Plan

Today we go home. Last night marks the last night away of the 4 weekends in a row away from home. Assuming all goes to plan, we will go to sleep in our own bed tonight. Between waking up and going to bed, we will eat breakfast, go to the beach, check out, go to the pool, then start the airport journey.

Breakfast

Same as yesterday – Willem’s. Helen & Chris are at a table when we get there and we talk to them briefly before having a seat. The coffee & meal is good as it was all week.

Beach

We head to the beach for a bit, enjoying some sun 1 last time befire we return home to finish out the dreary days of winter’s end in NJ. We grab a palapa which is the umbrella-hut that lines the beaches.

We sit out in the sun, talk to Brian & Jenny a bit before they have to leave, then dip in the water before going back to the shade. We read a bit then head into the room to shower up & check out.

Pool Cabana

Some of the company is staying 1 more day, so there are 2 cabanas for the company and we join them for a few hours before we have to leave for the flight. I learn another coworker’s name, and we get free lunch.

Airport

At 2:30 we are picked up by a bus and brought to the airport. The process is a bit crazy but it is what it is. We have a boarding pass check, then passport scan, then we go through security. After that, we go through US customs then we go through another security scan. Then we get to the terminal.

Obviously, this makes it easier when we get home since we won’t need to go through customs on the US side.

Shortly after getting there we find that our flight is delayed from 5:58 to 7:15. It is cooming from ORD and weather there is always a crapshoot.

We grab a burrito at a little shop in the airport for dinner, and it is not bad.

Flight

The flight is not amazing, entirely because my body is just tired & cranky. The seat feels especially uncomfortable today, and the air time of 4:45 is almost an hour more than the 3:50 it took to get here. I try to nod off a few times, but my body sort of goes into this “feeling” which I cannot describe in words. Almost like a waking dream twitch state. In the end, sleep is useless.

We had the whole row to ourselves so D lays down and tries to sleep a few hours.

I read, play games, and do nothing else. We land a bit after 11:30.

Landing to Home

We get off the plane, break out the jackets, get the Uber, and get home before 1:00. Our bedroom is 55 degrees. The lowest temperature ever recorded in Aruba was 66.

I instantly fall asleep.

Wrap-Up

Great trip, was good to chill out for a few days. Having a day at home is key because work is going to suck on Monday.
