October Anniversary 22-2: Green Woodlands

Setup

Day 2 of the trip, first of 3 full days here. The plan is to sleep in, have coffee & breakfast, roll out to find more coffee, head to Green Woodlands in New Hampshire for biking, then figure out the day from there. It’s a pretty easy plan to nail, though you never know what the day might bring. The day started bright and cold. But it was an amazingly beautiful day to kick things off.

Of note is that they’re already blowing snow on top of Killington as of this morning.

Abracadabra

First stop is in Woodstock, hitting up a new (to me) place that just surfaced on my coffee radar, Abracadabra Coffee. It is a small trailer that’s enclosed in a permanent building. The number of people here was inordinate, and in the end it took almost 30 minutes to get our drinks. We had no plans, so it was no big deal.

The espresso was good. And I had a specific Steve Miller Band song in my head all day.

Green Woodlands

We rode here last year so we had a plan for the day. We more or less hit that plan, though we skipped Ledges because the day was getting a bit monotonous. I like this place, but it has a bit of a feel that it’s built for e-bikes. I’m not sure how to explain that in objective terms. But I know e-bikes have always been legal here, and it does seem like it’s meant for those who sort of have all day to go up & down.

I like it, it’s a really well-built trail system. I think they could use more options though.

The Tired Drive

Not gonna lie, this was a long haul back home. Again, we had all day so it was fine. But the cold then hot then cold then hot starts to wear on anyone.

Yama Ramen

Took a shot at the ramen place in town and it was a pleasant surprise in how tasty it was. Broth was solid. Egg was solid. Meat was solid. In all this was a solid meal, though a bit smaller than normal and a tad on the expensive side. But you’re in Killington, so it is what it is.

Also, nice to not have to cook your own meal.

Home & Recap

Back home, unpack, shower up, hang out, watch TV, do laundry, and so on. It was a good day, top to bottom, and I look forward to tomorrow for more of the same.
