Philly with Julia

For her birthday, Julia decided she just wanted to take a day trip somewhere. After some ruminating on the subject she decided that our target would be Philly for the day. We had some other things in mind but that was the sort of destination for the day. More on that later because to start, we went to…

Delaware! Looking to do something silly we found the high point of Delaware which is not a hike. It is a drive up where you get out and take a picture of the sign at the side of the road. Last year we went to the Vermont high point so Julia decided she wants to add more to this list.

It was a fine day

Some woman working in her yard across the street figured out we were “high pointers” and gave us some information on the whole thing, including the fact that the real high point marker is under some trailer park house across the street.

We then went for a hike in Alpacas Run State Park. This was a random find by Julia and it was a cool little park – especially down by the river. Pics to follow.

After the hike we found a little hot dog stand to grab a bite to eat. We had seen it on the way in and decided to stop on the way out. Every single person who ate there seemed to be on a crash course for heart disease. So as yummy as it was, I suggest skipping this place as a routine affair.

After lunch we made our way to Philly.

On to Philly

The afternoon would be a tour of The Rosenbach, a small museum in an unassuming area of the city. Why? I can’t say I actually remember but I did tell Julia to pick something we could go check out. If I remember correctly, it was incredibly cheap to the point that there is no way that income can pay the salary of the people working there.

The small house is a memorial of sorts to a guy who used to live there and collected a lot of original manuscripts. Like Dracula, among many others. It was neat enough.

We then found a coffee shop to try. It was pretty good! I will come back if ever in the area again. Ultimo Coffee.

While walking around we came across Rittenhouse Square.

Finally we topped off the day by going to Cleavers for a cheesesteak. This is one of the must-see places as I understand it. Truth be told at this point I was so full I couldn’t even finish, which is saying something. The food was good but between this and lunch, I wasn’t feeling like my life expectancy was going up.

After that we hit the road and went home. Day trip done!
