Gore Mountain will always be a special place for me for reasons I can’t quite grasp. We’ve been there 4 years in a row this year, even if I didn’t ski this time. Last year, I tore my left calf in half on what was literally the last 100-200 yards of the whole weekend and it ended my ski season. Still, I love it and here we are.
Wednesday night saw a very late drive of 232 miles to reach the cabin that Pat lent us.
Since it was so late we did not belabor anything and went right to bed, and slept through to 8:00 which just never happens. When we woke up it was snowing out.
We ate a pretty meager breakfast of cookies and other assorted things then planned the day out a bit. D and the boys would be off to ski while Julia and I would figure out what to do. We got ourselves ready and hit the road.
Made our way to Gore in 30 or 40 minutes and dropped them off close to the lodge. Very few people were in the lot. Mid-week late in the season, it’s understandable.
We hit the Stewarts Shop on the way out for real breakfast and made our way down the Lake George Village to walk around a bit. It was bitterly cold and nobody was on the street. I imagine the summer is a little different than this.
We hit up Price Chopper for some ingredients to make dinner then drove to Bolton Landing to see that there was nobody there either. Tried to find some lunch but very few places were open. We ended up going to Famiglia’s for a sandwich which we took back to the house to eat.
We had some time to kill in the afternoon and pretty much did nothing but hang out and maybe watch a little TV. It was a lazy afternoon.
Back to Gore to get the family and bring them back to the cabin. We hammered on some snacks as a late afternoon snack.
We took turns showering up and then we started dinner, and while that cooked we played a game of 5 Crowns that Zac won. Wrapped it up by having a great dinner that Julia made.
Rest of the night was a bit of chilling out then bed.
