New Hampshire Pandemic Bike Trip Day 5 – Going Home via Gurney Lane

Last day. Last day of this glorious trip away from home. I wake up, grab a coffee, then head back to the room and start to pack up. Back on day 1 I was unsure how to even travel again. As expected, after a few days it takes no time to get back into the swing of it. I’m packed up and ready in short order.

I also grab some fresh strawberries at the store then we go down to have breakfast. I wasn’t even sure if they would be here for breakfast, since they left us alone last night. But they’re ready for us. Just us. Hotel for 2, thank you very much.

We also discuss how there are so few places in NJ where you can find fresh berries like this. The idea of getting a quart of berries at the convenience store is laughable.

About to dig into a yummy breakfast

So yeah, breakfast. Tami is the owner of the Inn and she’s our waitress today. Since she has nobody else to serve, we end up talking the whole time and it turns out she’s quite friendly. I can also imagine she enjoys the small party this morning. We talk a little bit about our plans, why we were here, and then we stumble upon the conversation of the Green Woodlands Foundation.

To rewind, that park is why we came up here and it ended up being closed to people who aren’t from Vermont or NH. Well guess what? Turns out that Tami is a good friend of Bob, the landowner over at Green Woodlands, and could have made a call for us. If only we had known 4 days ago…

So we wrap up, pack the car, and drive across Vermont to go to Panera in Queensbury. D works then takes a call at 11. I have a 12-2 call, which I take both in the car and at a a table eating lunch. We drive to the parking lot of Gurney Lane and D takes her 2:00 call there.

Chilling outside the truck waiting for D’s call to wrap up

This park is awesome. It’s small but a bit bigger than yesterday’s ride. And it’s a lot of fun so you can really loop it back and forth and not really have a bad ride there. Great park to end the trip with.

Rolling fun times at Gurney Lane

That said, my bike is hurting. The suspension needs love, the hub is popping, and I broke my dropper lever in the advanced skills park area. Oh well, it was 20 minutes before the end of the entire trip.

Wrapping up the trip with yet another broken bike part today

Trails recap, for future consideration. Note that this is a pretty perfect set of trails and direction. Not sure I would change much here. I am not going to bold these, as you should ride every one of them.

Park in the middle lot of the 3.

TrailComment
Rogue ExtensionSlight climb, rolling, to the point you know you have to end this way
RogueThis is a climb, not gonna lie. But not too bad.
Rock BusterWe did it CCW. Fun trail, lots of rock features but with go-arounds.
ErraticThis was ok, point to point. But there are only so many directions here.
Deal With ItThe downhill was ok, not amazing
ExcaliberThere’s only 1 trail here. This is a tough climb but it’s a good challenge
TwitterDownhill, CCW, fun down
Home PageCCW, all the way down the hill. Then at the pavement turn around and climb the other way. Good climb in that direction
TwitterUp we go the other way. Twitter has an up & down. I think we hit them the right way.
ExcaliberAnd the other way, solid enough little down here with some chunky stuff that was fun
RogueThis was actually a decent way up. We then took it all the way to the Extension. Not sure Rogue was best this way.

Rogue ExtensionDon’t miss it. Really a fantastic end

Gurney Lane wrapped up, we get in the car after stopping for some chocolate milk and the GPS says we have 216 miles to go. We listen to Midnight in Chernobyl on the way, and we finish that up. The drive is long, but we make decent time and are back home by 8:00.

And another trip is in the books. It was nice to get away. While it’s not the same as a “freeform” trip, it was very good to do something. Looking forward to doing more of these over the summer.
