Gore Day 3: Bringing It Home

Sunday, February 3, 2019

Last night we went to bed with the idea that we would wake up today and “see how it goes.” Well, we both knew that we were going to bed with the intention of sleeping in and taking it easy today. I knew D’s back was going to hurt since it was hurting a lot the night before. As a result, we both slept until 8:30 and enjoyed the warmth of the bed.

I was up first and I tossed some fuel on the fire and it lit right up. Then I made some breakfast which again, was some oatmeal with bananas and PB. Same breakfast we eat pretty much every day. Eventually everyone got up and we did a lot of this for the rest of the morning:

D enjoys her breakfast in front of the fire.

Eventually we packed up and hit the road. Before we left, I did some searching and came up with a coffee roaster in Glens Falls, NY, Spektor Coffee Roasters. When we got there D realized it was a breakfast/brunch place so we decided to grab a quick bite before the 3+ hour drive home. In the end, they were closing at 2:00 so the kitchen was shut down. I got an espresso, which was decent, and D got a tea for the road as well as a chocolatine, known as a chocolate croissant by most people here.

Bonus pit stop.

I’ve always had an appreciation for the Seattle Supersonics since I saw them play 2 home games back in 1996 (or so). Back then, Eddie Vedder was a front row personality and the games I went to were absolute blasts. It is a shame that they moved out of that city. An absolute shame on par with the Quebec Nordiques leaving Quebec City. Oddly enough, Seattle just got an NHL franchise. Maybe they will be the Seattle Nordiques.

Always remember Shawn Kemp.
On tap, espresso, tea, and one chocolatine for the road.

Save for the traffic, the drive home was mostly uneventful. Traffic in this part of the world is always a bit of a headache because the highway is 2 lanes for a significant portion of it. So a single belligerent driver can wreak havoc on the whole flow for a while. Given than you’re dealing predominantly with NY/NJ drivers, there are plenty that qualify as belligerent. So that gets tiring after a while.

As we got off the highway, we got to see a rare sight in New Jersey these days. That would be the sun. With that, we made it home and called it a wrap on yet another adventure away from the homestead. Even though it was Super Bowl Sunday, we decided to watch IO then Department Q: Keeper of Lost Causes. Apparently the Super Bowl was a Super Bore, and IO was junk. But Department Q was worth the watch.

With that, we call it an end to an excellent weekend.
